The Super Group logistics team has once again raised the bar at the 2012 Fedhealth Tour de Tuli. Coordinating the logistics of a five-night, multi-stage mountain bike tour that traverses three different countries (Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa) is no mean feat and Super Group has come through with flying colours.
The Tour de Tuli is a unique mountain bike event that allows riders to experience wonderful countryside that they would not normally be able to access on two wheels. The race starts at the Pont Drift Border Post in Botswana and traverses the Northern Tuli Game Reserve ending in South Africa at the Mapungubwe National Park, a World Heritage site. It is not a race, but a ride allowing cyclists the opportunity of really appreciating these wilderness areas.
Race organiser Chris Crewdson from Wilderness Safaris had nothing but praise for the Super Group logistics team. “From my side, this year has seen some major steps forward with the partnership between Super Group and Children in the Wilderness. In particular, I would like to congratulate Johan Drotsky and Peter Koller on a superb job managing the challenging logistics of this event. The 2012 Tour de Tuli has been hailed as the best to date by the riders which proves that we are delivering an exceptional product and Super Group is an important part of this success.”
Super Group supplied nine 8 ton trucks, nine 8 ton fridge trucks and three links to manage the entire logistics for this event. This involved transporting all of the food and beverage, equipment and each cyclist’s personal gear from one race village to the next. Thanks must also go to Scania for supplying one complete link and to Powerstar for supplying the cabs for the two other links.
For Jeff van Driel, Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer at Super Group, the challenge is to drive the Group's social responsibility programme by carefully selecting events of this nature that will have a positive impact on both colleagues and customers who take part. By sharing the experience of completing a healthy yet challenging outdoor activity together, bonds are formed and strong relationships built which would not be possible in a normal corporate environment.
The Super Group cycling team flew the colours for the company with a number of key customers invited to participate in this prestigious event. For Super Group it is not just about participating in the event but also the level of social upliftment and sustainable conservation that is intrinsic to this race. All money generated from the Tour de Tuli race goes to a non-profit organisation called Children in the Wilderness who are committed to helping educate rural children on valuable life skills and the importance of conservation.
Children in the Wilderness is an environmental and life skills educational programme that focuses on the next generation of rural decision makers. By exposing the youth of Southern Africa to their wildlife heritage and to the virtues of sustained community and conservation partnerships, it is hoped that they will appreciate the value of wildlife and wilderness areas as well as its potential to create value and a livelihood for their communities.
Super Group is proud to be involved with the Children in the Wilderness initiative and congratulates everyone who took part in the 2012 Tour de Tuli race.
